Public Advisory On Kalbaisakhi & Thunderstorm Preparedness In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Amid the prevailing nor’wester storms in Odisha, the Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services has issued an advisory to promote public safety and preparedness.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30–60 kmph) are expected in Ganjam, Gajapati, Nayagarh, Khurda, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Koraput, Cuttack, and Angul from May 19–23. An orange alert is in place for several areas.

Safety Guidelines

Fire and Emergency Services are on high alert, equipped to handle incidents such as tree falls, road blockages, fires, structural collapses, and rescue operations. Additional resources, including personnel, tree-cutting tools, and communication systems, are deployed in at risk areas, it further stated.

People have been asked to contact their nearest Fire Station or dial 112 in case of emergencies.

The Directorate also urged the public to cooperate with emergency personnel, stay calm, and follow only verified government updates, avoiding the spread of unconfirmed information.
