Bhubaneswar: A state-level public hearing will be held at Buddha Mandir here on June 4 to debate and discuss the problems encountered by right to information (RTI) activists.
It is being organised by Odisha Soochana Adhikar Abhijan, a forum of RTI activists.
The programme aims to evolve strategies for providing legal support and ensure safety of the activists.
“The activists have been using the anti-corruption tool since 2005 to expose irregularities in government programmes, manipulation in government appointments and malpractices in procurement. With the information, they have approached CVC, crime branch, state vigilance seeking inquiry and action against the culprits. In Odisha, RTI activists have faced attacks and there is a threat to their life. Police too have declined to file FIR in such attacks in the past,” said convenor of Odisha Soochana Adhikar Abhijan Pradip Pradhan.
