Berhampur: Puja committees in the city are happy over the state government guidelines for the celebration of Durga Puja, Laxmi Puja and Kali Puja in the months ahead.
“There are 52 puja committees in Berhampur. All of them will abide by the decision of the government,” said Ram Kumar Patra, president Courtpeta Square Puja Committee.
Due to COVID-19 situation, the puja would be performed in a simple but ritualistic manner this year. “Although the height of the Durga idol is limited to a maximum of 4 feet, we are happy that the tradition of puja is allowed despite the critical situation,” Patra said.
According to the government guidelines, not more than 7 people will be allowed to congregate at the pandals at a given time and there will be no immersion procession and entertainment or musical programmes.
