Pulled Up By Bombay HC, Anushka Files Fresh Petition; Here Are Details

Mumbai: Anushka Sharma has challenged a notice issued by the Sales Tax department for recovery of tax for 2012-13 and 13-14.

The Bollywood actor-producer’s petition, filed in Bombay High Court on Thursday, is in response to the Court pulling up Anushka last month for filing two petitions against the notice through her tax consultant Shrikant Velekar.

Virat Kohli’s wife has now withdrawn pleas filed through her lawyer and filed the new petition in her own name.

Adjourning the hearing till February 6, the high court directed the Sales Tax department to furnish its reply on Anushka’s petition within three weeks.

Deputy Commissioner of Sales Tax, Mazgaon, had issued an order asking for dues from Anushka for the assessment years 2012-13 and 2013-14.

Anushka stated in her petition that she had performed in films and awards functions as per a tri-party agreement with her agent Yashraj Films Pvt Ltd and producers/event organisers.

The Times of India reported that the assessing officer levied sales tax for endorsement of products and anchoring at award functions.

Anushka defended herself saying that the assessing officer “erroneously” held that by endorsing products and remaining present and anchoring award functions, she acquired copyrights which are goods of intangible nature and sold/transferred the copyrights.

She further contended said that copyrights of videos always remain with the producer who is its owner.
