Pune: Shivani Agarwal, mother of 17-year-old accused in Pune Porsche accident case, has been arrested for tampering the evidence.
She was apprehended after confirmation that his minor son’s blood samples were replaced with her’s for an alcohol test at the Sasson hospital, city police chief Amitesh Kumar told the media on Saturday.
She was present at the hospital when blood samples were taken and went incommunicado thereafter. She is slated to be interrogated at 11.30 am.
This came a day after police informed a local court that the juvenile’s blood samples were swapped with those of a woman.
Dr Ajay Taware, head of the state-run hospital’s forensic medicine department, chief medical officer Dr Shrihari Halnor and staff member Atul Ghatkamble have also been arrested in connection with the incident. Pune crime branch also summoned some nurses of the hospital and questioned them regarding the swapping of the blood samples, News18 had earlier reported quoting sources.
Police investigation had revealed that around a dozen calls were made between Vishal Agarwal, father of the teenager, and Dr Taware during the sample collection process. The teenager was allegedly drunk at the time when he drove the Porsche into a two-wheeler, killing two IT professionals in their 20s in the early hours of May 19, in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar area.
While the 17-year-old has been sent to an observation home, his father and grandfather have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping the family’s driver and putting pressure on him to take the blame.
Police have also obtained permission from the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) to record his statement.
