Mumbai: The 17-year-old minor—who was allegedly driving a Porsche car that rammed into a a two-wheeler, killing two software engineers, in Pune—has submitted a 300-word essay on road safety to the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) to comply with the bail conditions, according to media reports.

After the Bombay High Court ordered that it was illegal to remand him in an observation home, he was released from the facility last month. Soon after the accident occurred on May 19, the JJB had ordered that the juvenile must be kept under his father and grandfather and had asked him to compose the essay.

The lenient terms of the bail order had triggered nationwide outage, compelling the police to move the JJB for amendment of the order. On May 22, the JJB ordered that the juvenile be sent to the observation home.

However, the high court termed the amended JJB order to be illegal on June 25 and upheld that the laws related to juveniles must be implemented fully.

According to a report published in The Mint, the driver of the teenager’s family was pressured by his grandfather and father to give a statement at the police station that during the crash he was at the wheel. The teenager’s grandfather, Surendra Agarwal, was arrested for illegal confinement of the driver, who was allegedly confined in their bungalow. It was also alleged that the family members had confiscated the driver’s phone. The father, Vishal Agarwal—a realtor—was also arrested in a case related to the accident. Both, the father and the grandfather were granted bail last Tuesday.
