Punjab CM Hospitalised After ‘Fainting’; Is He Suffering From Liver Cirrhosis?

Chandigarh: Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann has been hospitalised after fainting, IANS reported quoting sources.

Mann was admitted to Fortis Hospital in Mohali on Wednesday night, and is undergoing a thorough medical check-up and multiple undergoing tests.

A spokesperson from the chief minister’s office said that Mann has been admitted for a ‘routine check-up’, and will be discharged after the tests are carried out.

The exact nature of the CM’s ailment was not disclosed. There has been no statement from the hospital management either.

However, Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Majithia has raised questions over Mann’s health condition and claimed that he is suffering from liver cirrhosis and may need liver transplant.

“All is well with the Chief Minister or no? People of Punjab have the right to know about the CM’s health. The facts are being hidden. I have information that last night he fell unconscious 2-3 times and he also had problems with his breathing,” Majithia said in a video uploaded on his X handle.

Majithia added that he has “credible information” that Mann is suffering from liver cirrhosis.

“If his condition doesn’t improve, liver transplant would be the only option left. Liver transplant leads to a number of problems and it affects normal functioning,” Majithia said.

“This happens due to excess consumption of alcohol and the liver not recovering… This is the reason he (Mann) has been getting treated at Apollo Hospital. However, yesterday night he was not able to reach Apollo and thus sought treatment at Fortis,” Majithia further claimed.

“I will appeal Fortis Hospital to not repeat mistakes and not to allow a rereun of what happened in Tamil Nadu with Jayalalithaa… There should be transparency. I again wish him (CM Mann) well,” Majithia said.

Earlier in the day, the Akali Dal leader had tweeted: “Late night, CM saab had to go to Fortis Hospital emergency. Get well soon Bhagwant Mann ji. I hope all is well.”
