Faridkot: Chancing upon unimaginable wealth can be a scary experience, as this incident involving a couple from the Faridkot district of Punjab has revealed.

Naseeb Kaur and her husband Ram Singh, daily-wage farm labourers from the Saideke village were living quiet lives till Naseeb’s fate turned.

She had purchased a Rs 200 ticket for the Punjab State Lottery and emerged the winner of the Rs 1.5 crore prize money. Fearing that they would get robbed or even kidnapped for ransom, the couple fled their home to an undisclosed location.

According to authorities, the couple became increasingly anxious after word of their massive lottery win spread through the village.

The sudden attention, frequent visitors, and constant buzz in the locality only added to their fear.

Fearing that they and their family were at risk, the couple locked their house, switched off their phones, and quietly moved to an undisclosed location. Their disappearance caught the attention of the authorities and the cops swung into action.

The police managed to trace them and assured the couple that they had nothing to fear.

Tarlochan Singh, deputy superintendent of police said that the family have been guaranteed full security. The department is committed to protecting the public and ensuring the couple’s safety after their sudden windfall, he said.

“We came to know only today that a lady named Naseeb Kaur had bought a lottery ticket worth Rs 200 about 15-20 days ago, in which she won a prize of Rs 1.5 crore. The family expressed fear that someone might harm them or demand ransom due to their sudden fortune,” the DSP said.

This move by the police has sent out a strong message to those who may have planned to rob the couple of their fortune.
