Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Saturday acquitted Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the chief of Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda, of murder charges. He got relief in the 2002 murder case of a journalist. Earlier,
a special CBI court had convicted him.
But Singh will be in prison as he was serving a life term sentence in rape cases. Singh was convicted in the murder case along with Kuldeep Singh, Nirmal Singh and Krishan Lal.
Singh had moved to the High Court , challenging the conviction by the special court. The deceased journalist, Chhatrapati used to publish Poora Sach, a newspaper. He was shot outside his house in Sirsa. Later, he succumbed to his injuries.
The attack came after he had published an anonymous letter, alleging sexual exploitation of women followers at the headquarters of the Dera. He is lodged in Sunaria jail in Rohtak.
