Tarn Taran: In a gruesome incident, a first year law student of a college in Punjab shot dead his classmate before turning the gun on himself on Monday morning. The whole incident was captured on the CCTV camera installed in the classroom.
The incident occurred at Mai Bhago Law College in Usma in the Tarn Taran district of Punjab. The shooter was identified as Prince Raj, a resident of Mallian village. The woman he shot dead was identified as Sandeep Kaur, of Naushera Pannuan, as reported by India Today.
While Kaur died on the spot, Prince Raj was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries, DSP Jagbir Singh has been quoted as saying by Hindustan T
imes.
The CCTV footage shows Prince Raj walking into the classroom with a bag slung over his back. He approaches Kaur and another woman classmate, speaking briefly with them. The three then move to seats at the back of the classroom and continue to talk.
A few moments later, Prince Raj abruptly stands up, turns and opens his bag. He pulls out a gun, turns around and shoots Kaur point-blank. Kaur collapses to the floor as the other classmate recoils in horror. Prince Raj then puts the gun to his temple and fires, crumpling to the ground.
The footage shows students inside the classroom panicking and rushing out. The incident transpired just as classes were about to start. Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
While the motive behind the shooting is still not known, officials said that more CCTV footage from around the campus will be scrutinised. The woman who was with Kaur during the shooting will also be questioned when she recovers from her shock, the police said.
Kaur’s mother, meanwhile, questioned how Prince Raj was allowed to walk into the college with a gun.
