Ludhiana: News of another absolutely disgraceful incident of crime against women surfaced from Punjab’s Tarn Taran district.
A 55-year-old woman was assaulted and then paraded semi-naked by her son’s in-laws. The woman’s fault? Her son had eloped with a woman and married her against her family’s wishes.
The incident came to light after a video of the incident, showing the woman in a semi-naked state, was shared on social media.
The victim told India Today that her son had registered his marriage with a woman last month. Upset over the marriage, five members of her daughter-in-law’s family came to her place, beat her up and tore her clothes.
Then they recorded a video of her in semi-naked state and shared it on social media.
Three of the accused have been arrested so far.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Tarn Taran) Ashwini Kapoor said that multiple police teams have been formed to catch the other accused.
Necessary action is also being taken to remove the offensive video circulated on social media platforms.
Police have registered case under IPC sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354B (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe), 354D (stalking), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 149 (unlawful assembly).
