Puri: The Puri district administration on Sunday ordered a probe into the incident, where a man carried his daughter’s body on a trolley rickshaw from the district headquarters hospital to Swargadwara due to alleged non-availability of Mahaprayan, the free hearse service provided by the state government.
On being informed about the incident, Puri sub-collector directed the CDMO to conduct an inquiry into the matter and submit a report in seven days. He also assured adequate compensation to the family.
According to reports, Dhani Sahu’s daughter complained of chest pain late on Saturday. Her family members dialed 108 ambulance. When the ambulance did not turn up, Sahu put her minor daughter on a trolley rickshaw and took her to the hospital, where she was declared dead.
Last month, family members of a minor girl carried her body on a stretcher at Phulbani in Kandhamal district after they failed to a get a hearse van. Similarly, a man had to carry the body of his minor son on a trolley from Nilagiri hospital in Balasore as he was unable to get a vehicle under the Mahaprayan scheme.
The scheme was lunched by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in August last year.
