Puri: Nine days after the alleged custodial death of a youth K Ramesh in Odisha’s Pilgrim Town, his parents returned home on Thursday.
Talking to the media, the mother of the deceased, K Bharati said that they were picked up by police on November 19, a day after the death of their son. “Police told us that our son died after colliding with a police vehicle,” she added.
She was taken to district headquarters hospital to identify the body and later to Swargadwar for the cremation where her husband lit the funeral pyre.
Thereafter, they went to a relative’s place. “Our livelihood is at stake with the death of our son. It is up to the government to pay us the compensation. We do not know how much financial assistance the government will provide us,” she pointed out.
To a question on whether they will file a case on the death of their son, the hapless father K Gurumurty said that they do not have the money to fight the case.
