Bhubaneswar: Four days safter a girl was set ablaze by miscreants at a village in Balanga area of Odisha’s Puri district, police made considerable progress in its probe and detained three persons in connection with the case.

Police said three local youths have been taken into custody, and intensive interrogation by the investigators is in progress. Special teams are also playing key role in the case, with further details expected to emerge soon.

Over 40 persons have been questioned by the Balanga police, as part of the investigation.
In another development, a team of the Crime Branch team reportedly visited the area. Team members were stated to have questioned some of the relatives of the girl.

Meanwhile, the condition of the health condition of the 15-year-old burn victim, who is undergoing treatment at AIIMS, New Delhi, has shown signs of improvement. Reports indicate that she consumed soft food on Tuesday. Oxygen support was also reported to have been suspended.

However, doctors have informed that she may undergo a critical six-hour surgery on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Puri police have planned to visit AIIMS-New Delhi to collect information in connection with the case.

Sources said at least one police officer will leave from Odisha and meet the victim’s family members in the national capital in this regard. The girl had alleged that three-bike borne youths had kidnapped her, rendered her unconscious and set her on fire on Bhargavi riverbed within Balanga police limits on Saturday.

She was admitted to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar the same day where police had recorded her statement. The minor girl was airlifted to AIIMS-New Delhi on Sunday to provide her the best possible treatment.

Police have so far not managed to collect any evidence related to the crime. If the victim’s health shows signs of improvement, the visiting police officer may record her statement again to extract some more information related to the incident, said sources.
