Puri: A servitor of Shree Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri was suspended for allegedly attacking the temple supervisor following a dispute over sweets sale.
Sources said the servitor and his aide have been detained by the police in connection with the incident that took place on Friday. Similarly, Chief Administrator of Shree Jagannath Temple
Administration (SJTA) Arabinda Padhee placed the accused servitor under suspension.
Temple supervisor Baxi Ramachandra Pratihari had recently ousted some non-servitors selling Rabidi (condensed milk) in the Anand Bazaar of the temple.
Opposing this, one of the servitors along with his aide allegedly attacked the supervisor when he was standing at the west gate of the temple. Pratihari, who sustained injuries to his right hand,
was dmitted to the Puri District Headquarters Hospital by the temple officials.
The Puri Superintendent of Police, Vineet Agrawal, visited Pratihari at the hospital.
Stressing that such acts will not be tolerated in the temple, Padhee said that the police have been told to arrest the culprits and take stringent action as per law.
Worth mentioning, the Anand Bazar is reserved exclusively for temple servitors to sell items.
