Bhubaneswar: The Jagannath Temple in Puri will remain out of bounds for devotees from 4 pm to 8 pm on Thursday in view of ‘Banaka Lagi’ ritual of the lords.
General darshan of the deities will be restricted during this period when the deities will adorn a new look after a special make-up ritual.
According to tradition, the ‘shringar’ ritual is performed seven to eight times a year starting soon after Niladri Bije ritual following Rath Yatra.
According to culture experts, certain rare forest products are used to prepare four types of colours- haritala (red), hengula (yellow), sankha (white) and black and these are then applied to the face of the deities.
