Puri Jagannath Temple To Remain Closed For Devotees Twice A Week!

Puri: Amid COVID-19 upsurge, plans are afoot to close Jagannath Temple in Puri twice a week.

The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has proposed the Odisha government to keep the 12th-century shrine out of bounds for devotees also on Saturday.

The temple is being closed on Sundays from April 4 for sanitisation. Disinfection of the premises is also being done twice a week at night after the doors are closed for the devotees.

Puri Collector Samarth Verma presided over a meeting on the temple premises on Wednesday where the sevayats of Chhattisa Nijog proposed the closure of the temple on Saturday. “If the state government approves the proposal of the SJTA, the Jagannath Temple will remain closed for two days on Saturdays and Sundays,” he said.

Notably, the SJTA had convened a meeting with all stakeholders on April 3 where it was unanimously decided to close the temple every Sunday.
