Puri: Senior sevayat of the Jagannath Temple, Premananda Das Mahapatra passed away at the district headquarters hospital early on Sunday.
According to sources, the family members had admitted Das Mahapatra in the ICR of the district headquarters hospital in the wee hours of Sunday morning after he suddenly fell ill. While undergoing treatment, he suffered a massive heart attack and passed away at 5.30 am.
It may be mentioned that Das Mahapatra was admitted to a COVID hospital in Bhubaneswar recently after getting infected with the virus. After recovery, he was staying in isolation at his hotel in Puri.
One of the most respected sevayats, Das Mahapatra was the badagrahi (bodyguard) of Goddess Subhadra. Besides, he was the secretary of the Daitapati Nijog and a member of the Jagannath Temple Managing Committee.
Along with Das Mohapatra, two other sevayats of the Jagannath temple Baladeva Singhari and Rabindranath Pratihari have also succumbed to COVID-19 infection.
