Puri Minor Girl Burn Case: Odisha Police Rules Out Involvement Of Others

Bhubaneswar: Shortly after the death of the 15-year-old girl from Odisha’s Balanga, who had suffered critical burns a fortnight ago, Odisha Police on Saturday said it found no evidence so far to establish the involvement of any other individual in the incident.

In a post on X, the Odisha Police said the investigation into the Balanga case has been conducted carefully and is now in its final stages. “So far, involvement of any other individual has not been established,” it said, urging the public to refrain from making sensational statements.

The minor burn victim from Balanga in Puri district of Odisha, who was battling for life after sustaining 75% burns after being allegedly set on fire, passed away at AIIMS Delhi on Saturday while undergoing treatment.

The victim had suffered over 75% burn injuries and was on ventilator support for several days.
It was earlier alleged that the minor girl was reportedly attacked on July 19 near Bayabar village in Balanga when unidentified assailants set her on fire in broad daylight.

She was initially admitted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar before being airlifted to AIIMS Delhi on July 20 for advanced treatment.

The incident sparked outrage across Odisha, with political leaders, civil society groups, and women’s organizations demanding swift justice for the victim.

Two days ago, Puri Superintendent of Police Pinak Mishra had stated that the girl’s statement had been recorded at AIIMS Delhi and the investigation was in its final stage.
