Bhubaneswar: Pressure continued to mount on state government for taking steps to conduct Rath Yatra with Odisha BJP president Samir Mohanty on Sunday appealing for active consideration of Puri king Gajapati Dibysingha Deb’s letter and consultation with Shankaracharya Nischalananda Saraswati.
In a video release, Mohanty said the government should analyse the issues raised by the Gajapati in his elaborate letter and take steps accordingly.
Writing to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday, the Gajapati asked the former to immediately move the Supreme Court to modify its order to allow the Rath Yatra. After intense deliberation, the Managing Committee and the Chhattihsa Nijoga had unanimously decided to appeal to the government, he said.
The Gajapati Maharaja also put forth the justifications quoting scriptures, traditions, historical facts for his contention to hold the Rath Yatra amid adequate precautions against COVID-19 pandemic.
The BJP leader also asked the government to consult with the Puri Shankaracharya on the issue as the seer has been appealing to the court as well as the authorities for the last two days.
Considering the significant positions held by the Gajapati and the Shankaracharya not only in celebration of Rath Yatra of the Trinity but also Jagannath culture, it is binding on the government to take them into confidence on the issue, Mohanty said.
