Puri: Now Puri Shankaracharya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati has broken his silence on the controversial Srimandir Heritage Corridor project.
Squarely blaming the government for the controversy, he said that governments are known to convert a “tapobhumi” into “bhogbhumi” and tourist centres.
“The government should have carried out construction only after consulting architects, engineers and experts to prevent any adverse impact on the temple,” he said.
“After coming here, I came to know that architects are of the opinion that the ongoing construction will definitely harm the temple. If that is true, what is going on is not proper,” he said.
“It is also improper if the buildings coming up around the shrine will hide the temple’s beauty,” he said.
