Puri Triple Murder Case: Five Sentenced To Life Imprisonment

Puri: Puri: A sessions court awarded life imprisonment to five persons accused in the sensational 2019 Pattanaikia Square triple murder case.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Deepak Ranjan Sahoo on Monday convicted Subala Behera, Shankar Behera, Mitu Behera, Punia Behera and Charan Behera, and sentenced each of them to life imprisonment.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on each convict. In case of non-payment of the fine, each will have to undergo an additional six months of imprisonment.

Additional Public Prosecutor Tapaswini Mohanty represented the prosecution during the trial.

The crime took place on July 14, 2019, at around 5 pm near Pattanaikia Square, where Purnachandra Behera, Krushnachandra Behera and Panchua Behera were hacked to death.

The triple murder was allegedly linked to an earlier incident in which the deceased had set fire to the house of one of the accused, Shankar Behera.

Following a complaint lodged by a relative of one of the deceased, Satyabadi police registered a murder case and launched an investigation.

Six persons were arrested in connection with the case.

The court, after considering the evidence, documents and arguments presented during the trial, ultimately convicted and sentenced five accused after the completion of trial.
