Hyderabad:
Telugu superstar Allu Arjun will be charged for the stampede outside Sandhya theatre that left a 35-year-old woman dead and her minor son critically injured after he arrived without prior intimation for the premiere show of his movie ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’, police said on Thursday.
The management of Sandhya theatre will also be charged for not making “additional provisions regarding security to manage the crowd,” NDTV reported.
“There was no intimation from the side of theatre management or actor’s team that they will be visiting the theatre,” Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand was quoted as saying by NDTV.
The top cop said there was no separate entry or exit for the actor and his team, even though the theatre management was aware of their arrival.
On Allu’s arrival, the excited crowd went berserk to catch a glimpse of the actor, which led to the stampede at the busy RTC Cross Roads near Musheerabad, at around 10 pm on Wednesday.
A day after the tragic incident, Mythri Movie Makers took to their Twitter handle to express sorrow and assured the victim’s family of all possible help.
“We are extremely heartbroken by the tragic incident during last night’s screening. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and the young child undergoing medical treatment. We are committed to standing by them and extending all possible support during this difficult time. With deep sorrow, Mythri Movie Makers.”
“The family, which was standing near the theatre entrance, was jostled and pushed down by the crowds. While Bhaskar and his daughter managed to escape with mild injuries, Revanthi and the minor son were trampled by the crowds,” a police official was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
The injured woman and her minor son were rushed to the hospital. However, the woman was declared dead on arrival. The condition of the 9-year-old is still critical.
