Puri: Doctors of a private hospital saved the life of a two-year-old girl child by removing a five-rupee coin stuck in her throat after she had swallowed it.
Lilibala Nayak, mother of the child, said the child was eating ‘khaja’ (a sweet offered to Lord Jagannath) when she found a coin and swallowed that too.
Nayak of Ainpur Karmala Mutt area rushed the child to Puri Sadar Hospital where the doctors expressed helplessness. Nayak then rushed the child to E 24 hospital where Dr Saroj Kumar Tripathi swung into action.
Dr Tripathi and a colleague removed the coin after a 10 minute procedure and the child was sent back home. Dr Tripathi said this is the first time that such a case was handled by the hospital.
