Balasore: India on Monday conducted the third trial of Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QRSAM) this month from a test range at Chandipur off Odisha coast.
The indigenously developed surface-to-air missile QRSAM was tested from launch pad-3 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at around 11.48 am.
he missile was flight tested with full configuration in deployment mode intercepting target in mid air, meeting mission objectives, according to a report by the ANI.
The missile engaged the aerial target establishing its capability. Director General (MSS) MSR Prasad was present during the trial. With this mission, developmental trials of the weapon system are completed and weapon system is expected to be ready for induction by 2021, it added.
The missile was earlier successfully test-fired on December 19 and 20.
Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the missile has a strike range of 25 km to 30 km. It uses solid-fuel propellant and has the capability of engaging multiple targets.
The all-weather and all-terrain missile, which can be mounted on a truck and stored in a canister, is equipped with electronic counter measures against jamming by aircraft radars.
The homegrown canister-based high-speed weapon system, which can deceive enemy radars making it difficult to be detected, is capable of destroying aerial targets, tanks and bunkers.
The first trial of the QRSAM was conducted on June 4, 2017, and the second, a month later on July3. The surface-to-air missile was also tested successfully on February 26 and August 4 this year from Chandipur.
