Chandipur: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted a successful test of the quasi-ballistic Pralay missile at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) near Chandipur on the Odisha coast on Tuesday.

The missile, launched from Launchpad No. 3 at ITR Chandipur, successfully destroyed two artificial targets 500 kilometres away.

The missile is reported to have achieved Mach-5 speed of about 6174 km/hr, which is five times faster than the speed of sound.

Pralay is a surface-to-surface quasi-ballistic missile developed by the DRDO, capable of carrying multiple types of warheads with a range of up to 500 km.

The Notam (Notice to airmen) was issued for 595 km.

Ahead of the missile test at the ITR in Chandipur, in Odisha’s Baleshwar district, people within 2 km radius of the test range were shifted as a precautionary measure on Tuesday.

Residents and domestic animals were shifted and temporarily relocated to safer places.

According to reports, over 2,500 people living near the missile testing range were shifted to temporary shelters. Arrangements for food, drinking water and other essential facilities were arranged.
