Queen Elizabeth II Passes Away: Camilla Likely To Receive Kohinoor Crown

New Delhi: The famous Kohinoor crown is likely to go to Camilla following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s longest-ruling monarch, at the age of 96, according to media reports.

Earlier this year, the Queen had announced that Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Charles’ wife, would become the Queen Consort when he accedes to the throne and receive the Queen Mother’s famous Kohinoor crown.

The Kohinoor, a 105.6-carat diamond, was found in India in the 14th century. In 1849, after the British annexed Punjab, the diamond was ceded to Queen Victoria. It has been part of the British Crown Jewels since then.

The Kohinoor diamond is currently set in a platinum crown created for Queen Elizabeth (Queen Mother) for the 1937 coronation of King George VI. It is on display in the Tower of London.
