Sambalpur: The Sambalpur University Institute of Information Technology (SUIIT), Burla has ordered 9 engineering students to vacate the hostels for their involvement in ragging.
Following ragging allegation against some students filed by a second year BTech student staying in a hostel of SUIIT, the disciplinary committee of the university launched an investigation. Acting on the probe report, the director of the committee issued the order to 9 students to vacate their hostels.
According to sources, the students, who faced the disciplinary action, include eight of second year batch and one of the fourth year. While four second year boarders have been vacated from the hostel for one year, the others have been issued the order for six months.
The second year BTech student had filed the complaint to the committee last month alleging that these students had scolded and beat him up as part of ragging. He had also mentioned their names in the complaint.
