Baripada: Allegations of ragging have surfaced at the hostel of a government school in Khunta area of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
As per information, several junior students at the hostel of PM SHRI Government High School at Khunta were subjected to physical harassment and humiliation by their seniors. Video of the incident which appeared on social media sparked concern about safety of
students in government-run residential schools.
It was alleged that a Class 9 student forced three Class 7 students to kneel for a long time in front of other hostel boarders. The ordeal reportedly began during play hours, as the junior students were allegedly targeted for playing behind the hostel building.
Visuals of the scene show that the three students kneeling while being interrogated by seniors. However, it was alleged that approximately eight to nine students were involved.
It was claimed that the seniors gave the Class 7 students an ultimatum, those who agreed to be physically beaten would be exempt from the prolonged kneeling. The incident came to light after parents viewed the video footage and visited the school to confront the administration. Further details are awaited.
