New Delhi: In a scathing attack on Congress, BJP leader Sambit Patra said Rahul Gandhi and the Gandhi family’s hunger for power is “shaking” the Opposition INDIA bloc.
Observing that Indira Gandhi imposed Emergency in 1975 due to her hunger for power, following a “corrupt election practice case” in Allahabad High Court, Patra claimed Rahul has similar ambition which is not helping INDIA bloc.
“This same hunger for power is now seen in Rahul and the Gandhi family is shaking the INDIA alliance. Despite knowing the mistakes made by his grandmother, Rahul is conflicted due to the desire for power… This is an incredible situation, even as we were saying yesterday that we will proceed together. They were insisting on having their candidate, even knowing they lacked numbers,” said the MP from Odisha’s Puri.
Patra said that true respect for the Constitution comes from the heart, and can’t be demonstrated merely by holding copies of it, referring to Opposition leaders’ mode of protest against the Narendra Modi government.
Patra took a dig at Rahul during his address.
“The moment Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla brought a resolution in the House against the Emergency today, Congress MPs in protest rushed towards the Well of the House, but Samajwadi Party MPs remained seated. Rahul Gandhi was confused about what to do then,” said Patra.
