Bhubaneswar: With electioneering for upcoming twin elections in Odisha gathering steam, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is likely to visit Salepur in Cuttack district on April 28, state Congress in-charge Ajoy Kumar informed on Monday.

“We have requested Rahul Gandhi to campaign in Salepur, Rayagada, and Berhampur. There is a need for a huge rally in coastal Odisha to boost party prospects in the upcoming elections. We have suggested two dates – April 28 and May 3 – and are hopeful of getting a confirmation by today evening or tomorrow morning,” he told reporters.

Ajoy Kumar further said that they have requested party president Mallikarjun Kharge to campaign in Balangir and general secretary Priyanka Gandhi in Nabarangpur.

While Priyanka is expected to visit Odisha on May 6, Kharge is likely to campaign for the party on May 7.

Former Union Minister Bhakta Charan Das, the campaign committee chairman of the party, had earlier told the media about likely visit of Rahul to the state coinciding with the birth anniversary of Madhu Babu on April 28.

The Gandhi scion may visit Rayagada on May 3 and address a mega rally to be attended by 1 lakh locals and party workers, Saptagiri Ulaka, who is the Congress’ MP candidate from Koraput, told the media.

He further said that Telangana Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy may also campaign  in the southern Odisha district on May 8 to attract Telugu voters. Reddy will address the public during a grand procession, which will be taken out from Amalabhata Chhak after offering prayers at Maa Majhiriani Temple in Rayagada, he added.
