New Delhi: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is all set to make her debut in electoral politics as she contests in the Wayanad Lok Sabha byelection.
Congress party decided to field Priyanka in Kerala’s Wayanad, a constituency which vacated by her brother Rahul Gandhi. The Congress leader won from both Wayanad (for the second time) and Rae Bareli in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, but decided to retain the latter.
With polling in Wayanad to take place on November 13, Monday was the last day of campaigning. And big brother Rahul was there for one final pitch in favour of Priyanka.
During a roadshow in Wayanad’s Sultan Bathery on Monday, Rahul threw a ‘challenge’ at “little sister” Priyanka to make Wayanad the “best tourist destination.”
“Priyanka Gandhi ji is the MP candidate. She is also my little sister, so I have the right to complain about her to the people of Wayanad. Wayanad owns a huge place in my heart that is beyond politics. I’m there to help everyone here at any time. If I can show its beauty to the rest of the world then I’ll happily do it,” said Rahul, wearing a white T-shirt with “I love Wayanad” printed at the back.
“I would also like to challenge my sister to make Wayanad the best tourist destination. When people think of Kerala, the first destination should be Wayanad. This will benefit the people of Wayanad and its economy, and the world will get to know its beauty,” the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha added.
Rahul said people of Wayanad had taught him that love has an important place in politics.
“I did not use that word, but the people of Wayanad taught me that the word has a great place in politics,” he said, adding that love and affection are the only weapons that can combat hatred and anger.
