Bhubaneswar: A Special Squad of Odisha Police raided a ganja godown running from a rented house at Ghatikia under Bharatpur police limits in Odisha capital on Wednesday and seized 120 kg of the contraband.
The squad seized also arrested 5 persons, including three women, in this connection. The arrested persons are Kamlesh Yadav, Sushilen Lima, Susilan Lima of Bihar and Sugyani Behera and Kumani Behera of Ganjam.
The ACP of special squad said two women were engaged to bring ganja from Kandhamal and Gajapati districts. They were paid Rs 800 per consignment. The contraband was stocked in the house and from there, Bihari youth sell small portions of ganja in the open market in the state as well as in Bihar and Jharkhand.
The conduits chose Ghatikia as their godown to escape the eyes of the police, said the ACP. Moreover, involvement of women too was a trick to cheat the police.
Police also suspect that the racket is also part of an international trade of ganja.
A case under NDPS Act has been registered at Bharatpur police station and investigations is on, the ACP added.
