Migrant Workers Escape After Pulling Chain Of Shramik Special Train In Balangir
New Delhi: The ‘Shramik’ special trains ferrying migrants to their home states during the lockdown can now carry 1,700 passengers, up from the present capacity of 1,200, according to revised guidelines issued by the Railway Ministry on Monday.
The revised guidelines stated that the capacity of these trains should be equal to the number of sleeper berths.
The railway zones have also been asked to provide three stoppages for the special trains in the destination state other than the final stop.
The ministry has also appealed to all states and Union Territories, especially those which have allowed very few trains, to liberally approve running more ‘Shramik’ special trains for migrant workers.

He also asked the states and UTs to ensure that migrant workers do not resort to walking on roads, rail tracks and use the available special trains.
Till May 9, Railways has operated 287 ‘Shramik’ special trains, including 20 bound for Odisha.
