Balasore: Train services in Odisha were reportedly affected after beam of an overbridge under construction collapsed and fell on the tracks near Sobharampur railway crossing in Balasore district on Sunday.
The incident took place while the last of the six beams was being laid using a machine on the erected poles, sources said, adding that no loss of life has been reported so far.
According to sources, train services were disrupted in the Balasore route as the overhead electric line was damaged in the mishap.
Railway official later reached the spot and started the restoration work on a war footing.
“The FOB girder launching work was underway at the site when one of the six beams fell on the railway tracks. The exact reason behind the mishap will be ascertained only after an investigation,” said Divisional Traffic Inspector, AK Khuntia.
He said that cranes have also been pressed into service to clear the route.
“After the girders are cleared, the electric lines will be restored. Till then, trains will be run on diesel engine on the route,” he added.
Kharagpur Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) has also reached the spot and monitoring the restoration work.
