Bhubaneswar: A volleyball coach, Rajesh Tiwari, was found dead inside a room of a guesthouse at Infocity in the city, police said on Tuesday.
Tiwari was a resident of Bhopal and had come to Bhubaneswar with the Railway’s team for the 69th Senior National Volleyball Championship being held at the Biju Patnaik Indoor Stadium on KIIT University campus. He was staying at a guest house near the venue.
According to reports, his team members went to the guest house on Monday morning as the coach didn’t turn up. They repeatedly knocked on the door, but there was no response. The players then alerted police.
Police broke open the door and found Tiwari hanging from a ceiling fan in the room. Police have sent the body for post-mortem and launched an investigation.
Though the reason behind the death is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that Tiwari died by suicide over family dispute. A day before the incident, he was heard angrily talking to one of his family members over phone.
