New Delhi: Indian Railways have made refunds amounting to Rs 1,885 crore to passengers who had booked tickets during the coronavirus-induced nationwide lockdown.
All passenger train services were suspended from March 24. Shramik Specials were run from May to ferry migrant workers stranded in different places to their native states. Subsequently, special passenger train services have been started.
“As the trains were cancelled en masse, the railways faced the challenge to return a huge amount of money towards refund to the rail passengers. The railways has successfully refunded Rs 1885 crore towards cancellation of tickets to passengers during the period of March 21 to May 31 on tickets booked through the online mode,” the railways said.
They clarified that the entire cost of tickets purchased has been refunded, with money being transferred to the account from where the payment was made at the time of ticket booking.
