New Delhi: A careless and thoughtless act cost a railway employee dear.
A video of this person, a staff of On Board Housekeeping Service (OBHS), tossing garbage onto the tracks from a moving train went viral and sparked outrage online.
Recorded aboard the Subedarganj-Lokmanya Tilak Special Fare SF Special, a voice in the background can be heard questioning the employee about his actions. That has no effect on the man, who continues to throw stuff.
“A senior official throws garbage right from a moving train despite warnings. Scary to even imagine,” says the caption along with the video which has been shared on Instagram.
Railway Seva responded to the post, stating that the man in question has been dismissed from his duties.
“Thanks for the information, as soon we received the complaint, the railways has taken action. The OBHS staff named Kanchan Lal working in spl train 04115 has been removed from job. Also heavy penalty imposed on OBHS contractor. Indian Railways is working 24/7 for the service of the Nation,” read the post on X.
The Ministry of Railways stated on its official X handle that the staff member was dismissed on February 27, the very day the incident took place.
Social media users vented their ire at the callous railwayman for blatantly disregarding basic cleanliness and environmental responsibility.
“Civic sense is the first thing that should be taught in all schools, irrespective of background,” respeinded one user.
Another expressed, “After politicians, it’s the employees who have ruined the country… The government job system itself needs to be abolished.”
Many users praised IRCTC for its swift action.
“This is the fastest action I have ever seen,” said one person.
