Bhubaneswar: Reeling under intense heat for three days, the people of Bhubaneswar heaved a sigh of relief on Sunday evening when rain lashed the city.
The day started in the capital city on a cooler note with heavycast sky and cloudy weather. As the day progresses, the temperature increased, reaching the peak in the afternoon. But towards evening, the condition changed suddenly.
It started with lightning and thunderclaps accompanied by a strong wind. At around 6 pm, the city received light drizzle which gradually turned into downpour. As the rain continued for nearly half an hour, the climate turned cool and pleasant.
It may be noted that Bhubaneswar registered very high temperature for the last three days. On Friday, the maximum (day) temperature shot up to 43.5 degree Celsius making life miserable in the capital city.
Earlier, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecast moderate thunderstorm with hail, lightning and wind to moderate rain in some parts of Nayagarh, Cuttack (including Cuttack city), Ganjam and Rayagada by 6.30 pm.
The weather office has also forecast rain and thundershower in some places of Odisha in next two days.
