Rain Forces Venue Change, PM Modi To Address Gathering In Jharsuguda On Sept 27

Bhubaneswar: The venue of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public meeting during his scheduled visit to Odisha on September 27 has been shifted to Jharsuguda from Berhampur in view of heavy rainfall warning, sources said on Tuesday.

The state is likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall till September 29 under the influence of back-to-back low-pressure areas over the Bay of Bengal. The IMD has warned of heavy rain along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph in Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati and Puri on September 27.

In his sixth trip to the state since the 2024 elections when the BJP snatched power from the BJD, PM Modi was scheduled to address a public rally as part of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Seva Paksha programme at Rangeilunda in Berhampur.

However, on Sunday, the state government informed the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) about the forecast and proposed Jharsuguda as an alternative venue for his public meeting.

He will now address a gathering in western town of Jharsuguda and also inaugurate and lay foundation stones for key infrastructure projects across the state, the sources added.
