Bhawanipatna: Jaleswara Shiva Temple near Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district was partially submerged following incessant rain for the past few days.
A video footage of the ancient temple showed rainwater roaring inside the temple premises with full force on Wednesday.
The 12th century temple is a perfect example of ancient Kalinga architecture. There is a ‘Shiva-lingam’ inside the sanctum. It is situated nearly 3.5 km away from Bhawanipatna.
The force of the water was so severe that Bol Bom devotees, who visit the temple every year during this season, were not able to enter the temple.
Odisha has been reeling under heavy rains in the past week.
Life remained crippled in many parts of Odisha due to incessant rainfall triggered by low pressure.
The districts that have been severely hit by rain include Malkangiri, Koraput and Nabarangpur, Balangir and Kalahandi.
Following heavy rainfall, road communication in many parts of the state has been disrupted.
Train services have also been affected due to flooding of tracks and landslides on Titlagarh-Rayagada and Rayagada-Koraput routes.
