Bhubaneswar: With heavy rain pounding several parts of Odisha, the state government on Friday asked the district administration of Kandhamal to remain alert as some roads and bridges have been submerged with water.

The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) spoke to Kandhamal Collector and instructed him to remain alert and keep close watch on the situation since some roads and bridges are overtopping due to rain.

Movement of vehicles and people are strictly prohibited during submergence of roads and bridges, official sources said.

Several low-lying areas, including roads, have been submerged with water following incessant downpour, disrupting normal life in the district, sources said.

Notably, Kandhamal and several other districts have been pounded by heavy downpour over the last few days. Incessant rain has thrown life out of gear in many areas amid submergence of roads and bridges. Low-lying areas in many places have been inundated following heavy rain.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow warning for heavy to very heavy rain to 26 districts of the state on Friday.

As per a bulletin of the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, heavy to very heavy rain is likely to drench the state in next two days.

Of which, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Bargarh are likely to experience isolated heavy to very heavy rain (12 cm to 20 cm).
