Bhubaneswar: With the depression moving to Madhya Pradesh, the intensity of rainfall in Odisha is set to further decrease from Sunday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday.
The depression lay centred over northeast Madhya Pradesh and adjoining north Chhattisgarh in the morning. It is likely to move towards southeast Uttar Pradesh across northeast Madhya Pradesh as a depression till evening of September 26. Continuing to move further north-north-westwards, it is likely to weaken gradually into a well-marked low-pressure area during subsequent 12 hours.
While heavy rain is likely to continue in some parts of Odisha till Sunday morning, the state is set to witness thunderstorm activity over the next two days.
In a weather bulletin, the IMD has issued a yellow warning of heavy rain over the districts of Baleshwar, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj till Sunday morning.
This apart, thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching up to 40-50 kmph) is likely to occur at some places over the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagada.
On September 27-29, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching up to 30-40 kmph) is likely to occur at some places over the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj. The weather agency has issued a yellow warning for these districts during the period.
During the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Saturday, Odisha recorded intense rainfall at 19 locations across nine districts.
Nawana in Mayurbhanj recorded the highest rainfall at 126 mm, classified as very heavy rainfall. It was followed by Raighar in Nabarangpur — 107 mm, and Khaira in Baleshwar — 101 mm.
