Rain, Gusty Wind To Lash Bhubaneswar, Cuttack Again This Afternoon

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nowcast warning for nine districts of Odisha, including twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, till 5 pm on Friday.

Thunderstorm with Lightning , gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph and light to moderate rain is likely in some parts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Khurda, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Kalahandi, Rayagada and Ganjam in 3 hours.

People have advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.

Nor’wester had hit 11 coastal and central Odisha districts, causing rain and minor damage to public property, on Thursday.  It also brought down day temperature sharply, providing much-needed relief from the sweltering conditions.

Rain accompanied by intense lightning activity and gusty wind started in the afternoon. Dhenkanal received 47 mm of rainfall and Khurda 28 mm. The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack received 14.5 mm and 15.4 mm respectively.

The MeT office had issued a warning for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40 km to 50 km per hour in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh and Khurda districts on the day.
