Bhubaneswar: Rain may play spoilsport in Christmas and New Year celebrations in Odisha as the Met office has forecast more downpour in the year-end.
The Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Centre on Sunday forecast that several parts of the state would receive rainfall for two days of rain and experience dense fog from December 24. After a brief respite for three days, rain is again likely to return for three days from December 29, it added.
According to the forecast, under the influence of westerly storm, light to moderate rain is expected in at least 16 districts of Odisha on December 24. The districts that may receive rainfall are Puri, Khurda, Ganjam, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri.
However, on December 25, there will be a respite for a few districts. But 11 districts of the state are likely to receive light rain on the Christmas Day, the Met Centre said.
Dense fog will also be experienced across Odisha on December 23 and 24 with the visibility reduced to 50 metre.
However, weather will improve from December 26 with dry condition prevailing till December 28. From December 29, the state would experience cloudy and overcast conditions with spells of rain for next three days till December 31. Minimum temperature is likely to fall during these days, the forecast said.
During the last 24 hours, light rain was experienced in different parts of Odisha. Kantapada in Cuttack recorded highest 45 mm rainfall.
Jagatsinghpur and Similiguda recorded minimum temperature of 13.6 and 10.6 degrees Celsius respectively, the Regional Met Centre said.
