Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nowcast warning for 16 districts of Odisha, including twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, till 1.30 pm on Thursday.
Light to moderate rain or thundershower with lightning and gusty surface wind 30-40 kmph may occur at a few places in the districts of Khurda (including Bhubaneswar city), Cuttack (including Cuttack city), Puri, Kendrapada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Ganjam, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Balasore, Dhenkanal, Rayagada, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur and Jagatsinghpur during the next three hours.
People are advised to keep a watch on the weather for worsening conditions.
Meanwhile, the Depression (remnant of severe cyclonic storm Montha) over south Chhattisgarh & adjoining Vidarbha moved north-northwestwards and weakened into a well-marked low pressure area over east Vidarbha and adjoining south Chhattisgarh at 5.30 am. It is likely to move nearly northwards towards East Madhya Pradesh & adjoining north Chhattisgarh and weaken into a low pressure area during the next 24 hours.
Odisha was spared of any major damage on Tuesday as the Montha went southwards and crossed the coast around Narasapur area, about 100 km south of Kakinada, which was initially predicted as the landfall point for the severe cyclonic storm. While there was a forecast for extremely heavy rainfall (204.5 mm or more), the state recorded the highest rainfall of 150 mm in Gajapati’s Gosani block in the 24 hours, ending on Wednesday.
