Bhubaneswar: The Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has issued a nowcast warning, alerting residents to light to moderate rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms till around 4 pm on Sunday.
According to the bulletin released at 12:35 pm, the weather conditions are expected to affect isolated places in Bhubaneswar (Khordha district) and Kataka (Katak district), as well as the districts of Baleshwar, Puri, Mayurbhanj, Jagatsinghpur, Kandhamala, Boudh, Ganjam and Nayagada during the next 3 hours. People have been advised to keep a close watch on changing weather conditions and plan their travel and activities accordingly for safety.
A similar warning was issued for Koraput, Gajapati, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Kendrapada, earlier in the day, with the e monsoon trough passing through Jaisalmer, Kota, Indore, centre of Low Pressure Area over north Vidarbha and adjoining Madhya Pradesh, Puri and thence east southeastwards to eastcentral Bay of Bengal.
On Saturday, the weather agency forecast that rainfall in Odisha would ease for two days starting Sunday before picking up momentum across several parts of the state. Isolated heavy rainfall may resume in Odisha during September 15-17.
On September 13-14, a yellow warning of thunderstorm, lightning and gusty surface wind has been issued for the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Nayagada. Similar weather is forecast for September 14-15 in several districts.
On September 15-16, the IMD has issued a yellow warning of heavy rain in the districts of Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj.
Similarly, yellow warning of heavy rain has been sounded for Jajpur, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj districts on September 16-17, while Mayurbhanj district is likely to experience heavy rain on September 17-18.
