Bhubaneswar: After a weeklong spell of heatwave conditions, Odisha is likely to experience thunderstorm activity with lightning, gusty surface winds and hailstorm under the influence of a western disturbance, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Friday.
“Conditions are favourable for moderate thunderstorm activity with lightning, gusty surface wind and scattered to fairly widespread rainfall over the districts of Odisha during next 3 to 4 days,” the IMD said in its midday bulletin.
People have been advised to keep watch on weather and take safe shelter during the thunderstorm activity to protect themselves from lightning and also follow traffic advisories in urban areas.
The day temperature across the state is very likely to fall by 3 to 5°C during the next 3 days, it added.
Notably, Bhubaneswar, which had recorded the season’s highest of 42.6 °C on Thursday, was cooler at 29°C this afternoon. Jharsuguda recorded 37.6 °C followed by Gopalpur (36°C), Balasore (31.8°C) and Chandbali (33°C) by 2.30 pm.
