Rain, Thunderstorm In Next 4 Days To Bring Respite From Heatwave In Odisha; IMD Sounds Orange Alert

Bhubaneswar: After encountering tormenting heatwave for the last three weeks, several parts of Odisha are likely to experience thundershower and rain in the next four days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday.

In view of rain and thunderstorm of varied intensity predicted by the IMD, the maximum temperature is expected to drop considerably in several parts of the state in the nest few days, providing the much-needed respite from the scorching heat.

In its midday bulletin, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar said that the maximum temperature (day temperature) is very likely to fall by 4-6 degree Celsius in the next three to four days. There will be no large change in temperature thereafter at many places over Odisha.

The weather agency said that light to moderate rain/thundershower is likely to occur at a few places of coastal Odisha, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Koraput, Rayagada, Kalahandi, and Nabarangpur districts by Tuesday morning.

It also sounded an orange warning and said thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph and hailstorm is likely to occur in Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khurda, and Puri districts during the period.

Similarly, yellow warning was issued for some parts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Koraput, Rayagada, Kalahandi, and Nabarangpur districts.

Orange warning was issued for thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph and heavy rainfall over Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Ganjam, Gajapati and Kandhamal districts.

The weather agency also sounded yellow warning about thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph over the districts of Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, and Koraput.
