Bhubaneswar A combination of movement of upper air trough towards the east and flow of moisture into the land from Bay of Bengal is likely to trigger rain and thunderstorm in coastal and south Odisha districts from March 16, Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan here said on Tuesday.
“There is probability of rain and thunderstorm accompanied by lightning between March 16 and 19 in coastal and south Odisha while the interior districts would also experience the same but at a lesser intensity,” CEC director Sarat Chandra Sahu said.
He further said that thunderstorm accompanied by hail might also occur in north and coastal Odisha between March 16 and 18. “As a result, day time heat would decrease from March 15 but the fall in temperature would be discernible from March 16 with maximum day temperature hovering around 33 degrees C at most places in the state,” he said said adding the trend would continue till March 21.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued alert for thunderstorm/lighting for the next five days. The state is likely to experience moderate thunderstorm activity with lightning and gusty surface wind till 8.30 am on March 19, it said.
Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall is also likely during this period.
